Political correctness strikes again. The PC loonies have decided to re-write the famous sea shanty. Which do you prefer:
1. PC Version (the pissed up sailor has been turned into a "grumpy pilot"
What shall we do with the grumpy pirate?
What shall we do with the grumpy pirate?
What shall we do with the grumpy pirate?
Early in the morning
Hooray and up she rises
Hooray and up she rises
Hooray and up she rises
Early in the morning
Do a little jig and make him smile
Do a little jig and make him smile
Do a little jig and make him smile
Early in the morning
2. The original version
What shall we do with a drunken sailor,
Early in the morning?
Put him in bed/the brig/the hold with the captain's daughter,
Early in the morning!
Shave his belly with a rusty razor,
Early in the morning!
Put him in the pickle barrel til he's sober,
Early in the morning!
Stick him in a bag and beat him senseless,
Early in the morning!
Put him in the grog barrel til he's pickled,
Early in the morning!
There are couple of other verses suggested by some sources (but I think they may be apocryphal
Slap him around and call him Suzie,
Early in the morning!
Put a bag over his head and kick him in the bollocks,
Early in the morning!

Ahoy!! is this something to do with Captain Pugwash? There was a big exposure about that some years back. Pirates do not drink absinthe; rum is their beverage of choice. Yo ho ho and a bottle of absinthe verte...

The Pugwash saga (dirty words and hidden meanings) is an urban myth.

Pirates might drink absinthe actually!!! Rum was used to make the water on board ship safe to drink. Louche me up a glass, Mr Christian. 1500- 1700 no absinthe though
